Running/Walking Safety Tips

Stay safe while exercising in extreme weather or at night by following these tips:

  • Wear bright, reflective clothing. Attach lights for visibility.
  • Plan your route carefully. Stick to sidewalks, run against traffic, and stay alert by avoiding loud music or noise-cancelling headphones.
  • Hydrate!
  • Wear appropriate clothing. Dress for the weather, and wear shoes with good traction.
  • Take breaks when needed. Watch for signs of heat exhaustion or hypothermia, and carry ID and self-defense supplies.
  • Bring a buddy! Running/Walking with a friend or dog and letting someone know your route adds extra layers of safety.
