Why is Employee Wellness So Important?

Employee wellness programs have a demonstrable impact on physical health and the healthcare costs employees incur. Programs often offer health screenings, disease management support, and ways to improve employee health behaviors like improving fitness and quitting smoking. Most modern wellness programs also offer initiatives aimed at teaching healthy eating habits and reducing stress and burnout.

  • Wellness programs have the power to retain talent: 67% of employees who work for organizations with wellness programs like their jobs more, and they are just as likely to recommend the company to others.
  • More than half of Gen Zers and Millennials consider wellness programs important or extremely important when looking for a job.
  • For the employer, wellness programs can yield a happy, healthy workforce that sees decreased absenteeism, improved retention, reduced healthcare costs, and a thriving company culture.
